Summer's only a few months away, and it's fast approaching! Everyone loves summer, right, school's out, vacation days are being used, skin's melting off of your body. It's a great time, and what better way to celebrate the hottest season than with a special NGTV summer marathon - The NGTV Summer Bash

You're probably not sure what the hell I'm talking about, here's the deal:

NGTV is a television themed collab, you can check out the last one (which was also the first) here:

The goal of NGTV is to replicate the television watching experience as close as possible. That, of course, includes not just shorts but commercials, bumpers, talk shows, and everything else you can think of. I suggest checking out the link above to get a better feel of what it's all about.

For this one, the theme's broader: Summer.

That's it.

You are invited to make anything you want, in any genre, medium & style, as long as it's set in the summer. Whether you wanna do an original short, a commercial, a parody of whatever comes to mind, or anything inbetween - it's all welcome!

Note: if you're doing a commercial - you don't have to include anything summer-y, but it is definitely encouraged!

Application:

Since it's a television themed collab, there are different subcategories for submissions. When applying, you will be asked what subcategory your submission will fall into.

The subcategories and their particular runtime guidelines are as follows:

Commercial (up to 45 seconds)

Short (from 30 seconds up to LIMITLESS)

Parody (from 30 seconds up to LIMITLESS)

Other - PSAs, talk shows, news, trailers, etc. (depends)

Please don't think any of these have a higher barrier of entry, the reason for subcategory selection being a part of the application process is for streamlining the production. Gotta keep track of how many entries are in each subcategory. The collab is open to beginners, so in case you were worried - don't be!

After applying, you will be contacted as soon as possible with all the relevant information & a Discord invite. No worries, though, you don't have to be in the Discord - it's set up mostly to help people find collaborators.

Please don't apply more than once.

Apply here:

Link

make sure to read the rest of this post, though!

Specs & Rules:

Video: 24fps 2160p 4:3 (2880x2160)

Audio: stereo @ 44,100hz

Note: shorts and parodies can be 16:9 but keep in mind they will be letterboxed

commercials must be 4:3

Live action is allowed.

No A rated material. M at most.

If doing a short or a parody - you must have a title. No need to make a title card or anything, but a title is needed for the "Coming Up Next" bumpers.

No watermarks. Everyone will be properly credited both in-video and in the description.

If you have any questions, please read the forum posts first, before asking.

Deadline: June 5th

That gives everyone three months to finish their submission(s) which should be more than enough.

The collab itself will be released two weeks later, on the first day of summer, June 20th.

Submitting:

name your file using this template:

yourNGusername_title

and include a text file with NG usernames of anyone who you collaborated with, as well as their role(s) (musician, VA, backgrounds, etc.)

please don't work on a submission without applying and being accepted first.

note: the collab is beginner friendly and you are likely to get in, as long as there's effort put in your work.

the year has come to an end.

happy new year to everyone, it's gonna be a wild one!

gonna take this chance to link stuff I've done this year, and very briefly talk about some of it:

uploaded a bunch of art this year, but it all started with some props I whipped up for the Smiling Friends gig application. you're free to use these, with credit of course:

after that, I did some pixel art practice:

that last one being an animation for PokeGrounds, a collab hosted by @scottwjsm

did some BGs for it too, one of which ended up being cut sadly:

also did some BGs for Scott's other projects as well:

the mario toon is yet to come out, but I also helped on this one:

next up, I had the PRIVILEGE of helping @53xy83457 out, and I say privilege since his Quickdraw games were a big part of my childhood (later middle school edition) so getting to work with him was pretty damn cool:

learned a lot from doing all those backgrounds, so excited to do some (a lot) more in 2024.

next up, I got to help on two awesome reanimated projects - Shrek 2 Retold & Road to El Dorado Redialed, the latter being my favorite (mainstream) animated movie so it was a huge honor. my part for it had to be rushed, so I'm not too proud of it and decided not to upload it on its own. you'll see it in the collab, hopefully, when it's out. the shrek 2 retold part, on the other hand, you can take a look at right now:

and now we come to the one and only thing I made myself this year:

along with an animated BG from it:

since we're here - lemme just post the first one real quick even though it's a 2022 thing

HAPPY FAMILY as a series was(is?) a test to see how many times you can repeat the same few jokes without completely killing them. i think it's safe to say the answer is: less than in the second one for sure. still, both got a good reception - especially the second one - and I'm happy with how they did. gotta shout out @Noves specifically because he single handedly carried them both as Uncle Larry - what an absolute legend! I still owe him a pixel art piece though, since I'm a piece of sh-

and the last thing I did this year was organize a Christmas collab. high off the HAPPY FAMILY 2 vibes and "success" I decided to host a tv-themed collab, and after seeing there were no Christmas collabs in the works - I made it a Christmas collab. later found out that there already was one like that 2 years ago, but the host of that collab @RGPAnims didn't mind the similarities and even came on board to help us out with the new one!

it grew to be a 45 minute long beast by the end of it, and I think it's pretty damn good - especially considering it was all done in under 2 months:

and BGs from my part for it:

with music by @TeffyD & starring @makestuff & @Mikeysota

it was a lot of fun doing this, and the reception has been amazing. some people even expressed interest in more NGTV - and I'd love to do it. it will definitely be back for Christmas 2024, and I have some big plans for it, but maybe there'll be a non-Christmas one earlier. we'll see - it's still too early to talk about that seriously!

huge thanks to everyone who participated and a huge apology to @MetalSlayer69 for forgetting to include their submission. @KingCrowned also made one, a bit late, and I planned to include it along MetalSlayer's in an update by the end of the year, but my PC has not been able to turn on in the last few days - so I couldn't do it. still unsure what my problems are, but I should have it all up and running relatively soon and WILL push that update out, no matter how late.

special shoutouts to @VoicesByCorey and @jazzy666 for helping A LOT of people by lending voices for their submissions! like, huge amounts. for real.

and of course all my old FDS buddies who came on board and contributed, it was a nice lil FDS reunion in a way:

@AgustinGates

@Mabelma

@MihaP

@littlbox

@SroSocial

@WillsRandomArtwork

wish more FDS people came back for the project, especially GoodL, but I'm happy to have at least gotten in touch with some of the others! some did join, but sadly couldn't make it in time.

that's about it for the NG side of things. outside of NG, I'm happy to say we have wrapped production on a pretty big short/pilot. it's in the post production and SFX stage and should be hitting festivals next year! very excited to talk about it more when the NDA is lifted. i can say, though, i did character concept art & was a producer on it. it's gonna be a wild one - mix of 2d and 3d - you'll see.

that's pretty much it: some fun stuff coming 2024 but hey, that's the next year - who cares - see you all then!

I was looking around and noticed that there was no Christmas collab in the works, so I present to you

iu_1107539_3346873.png

You're probably wondering what the hell is this, and look, I get it. Let me explain.

Remember television? Remember how it had a bunch of wacky stuff all over it ranging from mind numbing talk shows & weird reality tv to wonderful holiday specials? It usually showed movies as well. News, shows, and most importantly - commercials. A bunch of other stuff too. Truly a buffet of unsolicited content for everyone to consume.

Every holiday season, most things you come across tend to cater to the holiday in question. That's pretty much what this collab is.

The goal of the NGTV Christmas Collab is to replicate the holiday-season television watching experience as close as possible.

You are invited to make anything you want, in any genre, as long as you feel it's something you might, sometime, somehow, stumble upon while mindlessly staring at the screen in front of you. Not this screen, the other one.

Whether you want to make a dumb commercial, a full on short, a parody of a beloved holiday classic, or anything else you can think of - it's all welcome here!

With the fancy words pitch out of the way, here is some important info

iu_1107541_3346873.png

Submission must be at least 15 seconds

No A rated content

Parodies of existing specials or movies are allowed

Live-Action is allowed

No VHS/CRT filters as those will be applied in post production

Your submission must be somehow Christmas related, unless you're doing a commercial. Christmas themes encouraged for those too, though.

iu_1107540_3346873.png

24fps

2880x2160

Stereo sound @ 44100hz

iu_1107542_3346873.png

Note: This collab is semi-open, meaning anyone can apply but (maybe) not everyone will get in. Don't worry though, it is more than accessible to complete beginners, as the main goal here is to have fun!

In order to apply you can reply here, in the thread, or just shoot me a PM!

Aside from animators, musicians and voice actors/actresses are free to apply as well! Maybe someone in the collab needs your help, who knows!

I will send you the Discord invite as soon as you're accepted.

If Discord's not your thing, that's cool, you don't need to be in the server to participate!

See you on the other side, everyone.

happy spooky month, Newgrounds!

continuing my admittedly lazy, horrible, and kind of sad, tradition of doing a single toon a year - I bring you

it's a sequel to last year's spooky month short I did, which you can watch here, and as any proper sequel - it's much grander in scale!

at least as far as running every single joke into the ground repeatedly goes. all the good sitcoms do that. it's literally a necessity, pretty much the entire point of the genre. trust me.

featuring an all star cast:

@Noves as Uncle Larry

@Guardias as the TV salesman

@jazzy666 as Sharon

@Saminat as the son

@VoicesByCorey as the announcer

and original music by @dsptdnb who also did the sound mixing!

huge thanks to everyone who helped, I really appreciate it.

give em all a follow if you haven't already, they definitely deserve it.

oh yeah, it's on youtube as well, for some reason, if you wanna check it out there:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldnwUyzdC5U

aaaaaand I uploaded a lil background from it to the art portal

hope you enjoy the toon, and have a great spooky month!

ps. might have a thing or two on the way, see you soon. maybe.

I awaken from my eternal slumber to bring news

Nah, no news really, but I did upload a handful of small things & am about to start flinging shit at a NG mod because I feel like being a dick today. That sound good? We all cool? Alright, let's go.

Did another background for Scott's upcoming Mario toon.

This one has weird perspective and wacky going-ons all around, but it's all for a good reason. It's supposed to be a pan along with parallax scrolling going on. Should be good in action.

Then, did another battle arena for the one and only 53xy83457! This one might look simpler than the previous (city) one, but it was a lot harder to make due to the perspective and my limited experience. Plus, what I've realized is that if the BG is too cluttered (again, the city one I did previously) it can draw attention away from the actual things you should be looking at. On top of that, considering basically half of the image is the walkable arena thing, there can't be much stuff there, if any. Good exercise, and I learned some stuff doing this one.

And for reference, here's the city one I mentioned above:

Aaaaaand that's it. I did upload something I did a few months ago, though.

An animated TV background, can ya believe it!?

It was supposed to be in PokéGrounds but the segment got cut, unfortunately. Really like how it turned out, and it was hell to make it, so I uploaded it on its own. All done in Adobe Animate.

For the closer, I'll get to the shit flinging I mentioned earlier.

Some months ago, I made a news post & a thread in the voice acting forum looking for voice actors & actresses for an upcoming short, a sequel to Happy Family. Got a lot of responses, did auditions and tests, and ultimately I found people who fit the roles perfectly. Found people to collaborate with in the future, too. All in all, it was a success and I'm thankful to everyone who reached out!

Then all of a sudden, quite some time later, there was a quick surge of interest in the aforementioned forum thread. With it, came LuckyDee to lock the thread with the following message:

"This topic is now four months old and keeps getting people's hopes up, while the creator remains silent. Locking this to keep it from stealing sunshine from people who do actually need the help."

With that being the post that came with the locking of the thread, I couldn't reply, but honestly it's pissing me off, so I'm doing it here.

I'd like to make it clear that while LuckyDee has a decent point - I should've made an update post in the thread to say the roles have been filled and that's definitely a fuck up on my part - the way the message continues is implying that I don't need help, and that I'm stealing from the people who do.

That is ridiculous.

I have talked to dozens of people, responded to every single person who contacted me, be it before or after the roles have been filled, and have overall done everything to make it the most comfortable experience for everyone involved.

The fact that I didn't post in the thread does not mean I don't need help. This website has had a PM system for longer than some users have been alive, which might come as a surprise to Dee, I don't know.

Might seem pointless pointing all this out, but from my perspective this kind of talk can damage any sort of reputation or a chance for future connections, and all because a fucking mod of all people isn't aware of how the website they're a mod for even works. Simply ridiculous and unacceptable. Why the need to add a snarky lil comment? Why the need to bash someone while using your authority to make sure they can't respond?

Fuck you, mod.

ps. Happy Family 2 coming this month, get ready

How do you do fellow Newgrounders

Just thought I'd throw out a small news post covering a handful of stuff I did recently. Gonna keep it short, so no worries.

Had a chance to participate in Shrek 2 Retold, with this lil shot, which was a lot of fun to do:

Always a blast working on 3GI collabs!

Afterwards, did some backgrounfs for Scott's upcoming Mario toon. It's gonna be a banger. Speaking of banging, I gotta bang out one more background for it.

iu_1046208_3346873.webpiu_1046209_3346873.webp

They're also up on the art portal:

While I'm talkin bout Nintendo stuff, I also did this quick lil GBA background:

Did that one for the PokeGrounds collab, which you should give a watch if you haven't already:

By the way, if you need some backgrounds or prop stuff, feel free to hit me up - I'm always on a lookout for gigs and collabs!

That's about it for now!

Still working on the second episode of Happy Family - making very slow but pretty great progress. Going out of my comfort zone for some shots and it's a blast doing it. I hope you all will have as much fun watching it as I am making it. Honestly, though, tough chance there - it's basically an endurance test. You'll see what I mean when the time comes.

Before I go, would just like to give a lil shoutout to The Cog Collab (Coglab) which I keep meaning to make a part for, but things keep getting in the way. So, don't be like me - go and make a part, it's a very fun lil project!

See you very soon, by the way, with a surprise upload for my 2013 bros:)

ps. go give MihaP some love, he really needs to hit that 300 followers mark. If Tom Fulp is doing it, so should you.

Hey all, just wanted to do a little update on things I've worked and am working on!

Participated in the PokeGrounds collab (hosted by @scottwjsm) that came out just a few days ago. Tried a different, pixel based, art/animation style. The whole thing was a very fun experience, and it features amazing voices from @Mikeysota and @VoicesByCorey who both did a hell of a job. I gotta be honest, though, I'm not sure who wrote the skit. All I did was bring it to life. Check out the collab right here:

I've also uploaded a (slightly altered) still from it to the art portal:

,Overall, my takeaway from this whole thing is:

I wanna do more pixel based animations. So expect some whenever!

While on topic of pixels, lemme just post these as well.

Did a little practice a few weeks ago and ended up with:

Another thing I did recently is a background for the one and only @53xy83457 which you can take a look at right here

Aaaaand I did some backgrounds for this wonderful piece of art:

Oh yeah, I also made some props you are free to use for any Newgrounds project you want (with credit of course)

And now, last but not the least, the upcoming stuff

The sequel to my last short Happy Family is wrapping up the pre production stage & should be entering the actual animation stage sometime first week of July. If all goes smooth, a late July/early August release should happen. Fingers crossed.

In case you haven't seen the original, give it a watch:

Doing a short shot for Shrek 2 Retold too, and it's nice being back for the third 3GI collab - first two were a lot of fun!

For now that's all I got to say. Got some stuff under NDAs I'm very excited to talk about - and it should be happening soon.

See you all real soon!

ps. love ya rdh(drh?) hope you're well

First things first, this is not a paid project. Saying this immediately so you don't waste your time.

I am once again rising from the ashes and working on a short, it's a sequel to my last toon "HAPPY FAMILY" which you can watch right here

You don't have to watch it, though, don't worry - I'll just sum it up real quick:

The short is set in a sitcom world and follows a family whose patriarch is dead. Think Weekend at Bernie's, but with a bit more rotting involved. As it's a sitcom parody, there's cheesy jokes, an unbearable studio audience, and my favorite trope of all - running every single joke into the ground. The sequel is the same, but bigger in scope.

If that sounds like something you'd be interested in appearing in, let me know! I appreciate all the help I can get. If this somehow ends up making any money (probably impossible) you will, of course, be compensated.

The male character is an energetic TV salesman.

The female character is a calm, laid back, woman. She's relatively normal, compared to the other characters.

Neither of these characters have a lot of lines.

Please leave a comment or send me a PM if interested! Thanks.

just poppin in to say a few words,

roughly half of 2023 has passed and I'm yet to post any animations. posted some art, though, so it kind of balances out.

anyway, working on two new shorts - one should be done relatively soon (1-2 months) and the other one is in very early stages right now, but I'm hoping for a late summer release.

on top of that, contributed to some projects that should come soon as well. did some backgrounds for one, and animation for another. pretty excited to see how they'll come together.

how you doing, people?

when is general reopening?
